In the face of all this ‘moaning’ by white folks in SA, many pro-ANC peons have crawled out of their holes and loudly denounced us as ‘cowards’ for not shutting up and dealing with the world’s highest murder rate, blackouts, rampant corruption and so on in obedient silence. The old guard struggled so hard for freedom, and in its place the ‘new comrades’ are fighting tooth and nail to dismantle these very freedoms in order to cement their spot in the ANC pecking order.

First and foremost is the odd notion that it is only whitey who is complaining. To be sure, we do moan a lot, but then again, I guess expecting service delivery for one’s taxes is just cause for this. But I don’t think any but the most delusional of ANC sycophants would spout such idiotic rubbish insinuating that it’s just the white folks who are complaining. In the new South Africa, it seems the black, Indian and coloured middle classes are content with things if your local comrade is to be believed. But they are complaining, and then some. A recent article by Jon Qwelane says that it’s just whitey leaving SA, and then laughably proposes vast constitutional amendments to force white folks to stay in SA or at least pay a ‘fine’ for their lack of confidence in our fearless, yet ridiculously inept, leadership. I’m not so much concerned with Qwelane himself. He has a tendency to write such moonbat idiocy pieces on a regular basis. In fact I’m pretty sure that, if he were to write coherent, logical pieces his BMW allowance and shopping trips to Woolies would decrease significantly.

But I am more worried at how the new generation of ANC grunts are absolutely, obstinately, positively, retarded. We aren’t talking about the old guard here; the folks who grew up during the struggle with substandard Bantu education, or learned their letters in MK training camps. No, I’m talking about those youngsters who are around my age. The twenty-somethings who never got to partake in the struggle and now seem hell-bent on creating one on whatever flimsy grounds they can muster. These are folks who studied Political Science alongside me, received the same level of education, and yet are utterly and hopelessly delusional, with specific regards to the state of the nation. Why oh why didn’t they study a little harder? Perhaps something regarding the formation of totalitarian states would have sunk in, or even an inkling of an idea on Marxist doctrine. Instead we see hordes of mindless graduates and near-graduates swimming around most channels of the public sphere spouting nonsensical pro-ANC bullshit that really has no logical or rational basis. We occasionally witness this in the comments section on this blog as well, and many other writers I’m sure can testify to this phenomenon.

With this new surge of idiocy, I can only conclude that these ‘new comrades’ are so criminally ignorant for two possible reasons. Firstly, they are perhaps genuinely convinced that the government is doing a great job in ‘transformation’, that Zuma is a fine leader, that world-record murder rates and lack of service delivery should not be criticized, and that the ANC should rule until the second coming of Jesus Christ our Saviour in Heaven… or something. If these comrades are truly so convinced, they are idiots, pure and simple. Being black and formerly-disadvantaged does not mean one should then proceed to presently disadvantage yourself with such absurd delusions. A great thing about democracy is that it’s OK, indeed even encouraged, to criticize your government when it stuffs up. Perhaps even express your dissatisfaction with your party’s incompetence with your vote every five years. And yet these new comrades behave as if disloyalty to the ANC is a capital offense, worthy of shame and public flagellation. Believe it not, comrades, voting for someone other than the ANC won’t see an automatic regression back into apartheid. It might, gasp, even be beneficial to your country. Assuming, of course, you genuinely give a damn about South Africa rather than following party lines.

But if these folks are truly so misguided, then there is precious hope of reform. They are delusional in much the same fashion as religious zealots; content to shrug off any reasoned criticism in favour of strongly-flavoured rhetoric. There is nothing to be done for these hopelessly ignorant fools other than to throw some books at them in the hopes that something will stick, whilst still giving them and their frothy-mouthed zeal a wide berth, lest contamination ensue.

But I am more inclined to believe that the new comrades have adopted a clever, if somewhat selfish, façade. In the ANC, one will not climb the ranks from junior cadre to full-fledged fat cat by dissenting with the party line. Indeed, I believe these comrades adopt such a retarded advocacy of the ANC, its members and policies precisely because, like any true-blooded capitalist, they know it’s in their best interests. This is often why we see little to no response from these fools when confronted with empirical refutation to their speeches, comments and articles. It’s because, I believe, they know how foolish their words are, but they must be uttered in order to be seen to be a good cadre in the ‘new struggle’ to heave Zuma onto his fat throne at the top, all the while hoping to grab some crumbs that might fall from his rotten table.

This manifests in many ways. From the ridiculously self-destructive ANCYL riots on university campuses (resulting in often higher residence and tuition fees), to the many pro-abolishment Scorpions advocates who argue that the organization is ‘out to get’ the ANC, rather than, y’know, fighting corruption and white collar crime (sadly something, I believe, which is virtually one and the same thing these days.) The aftermath of these statements and actions are never contested because the comrades know how absurd they are, but they always recognize that it’s most certainly in their best interests to toe the line lest they be reduced to a mere party peon for the rest of their days, relegated to tshirt dispenser at the party rallies.

So there we have it. I believe that the new comrades are either genuinely delusional or, more likely, are simply as greedy as their seniors. I’m willing to accept further suggestions as to why there are no more clever comrades though! I have no idea how one would remedy this situation however, as it seems the ANC’s ranks are positively swollen with these selfish/ignorant fools who will see SA sink into self-destruction in the name of self-enrichment, rather than actually participate in criticizing the government and voting against this endemic incompetence.

I may be white, middle class and fattened on the spoils of apartheid, but that does not mean I should simply put up and shut up while my family is murdered, my property violated, and my country torn apart by greedy vultures, content to pick apart the last vestiges of democracy while decrying all the white folks who ‘detract’ from their glorious ride into the last sunset upon the gravy train.
