One Victory
I had an interesting experience today. Driving on the N1, I saw several of police cars blocking the highway in the distance. At first I thought it was a roadblock, but as I got closer and had to slow down to get around them, I saw it was really a bust. The police cars had forced another car off the road, probably only a minute or so before I got there. The car had been surrounded by roughly twelve cops, with a mixture of rifles and handguns, and some of them were in the process of handcuffing the perps in a rather Jack Bauer-esque manner. I assume they must have been a fairly high-risk group, in order to warrant such manpower, and I’ll be curious to see whether the story appears in tomorrow’s news reports.
I must admit to feeling a very visceral sense of satisfaction at seeing bad guys getting what was coming to them. I’ve been extremely critical of the SAPS over the past few years, but it’s nice to see first-hand proof that there are cops successfully carrying out the fight against crime; that the criminals don’t always get away with it. It’s a good feeling.
