As the Cabinet was being introduced, the crowd (about 600 mainly ANC supporters) offered just a pleasant clap. Same for the Speaker and Cyril Ramaphosa...but when the MC said Winnie Mandela the crowd erupted into a deafening cheer with wild applause, singing and chanting. Why is it that criminals and genereally reprehensible people enjoy the support of the ANC grass-roots? Support wasn't that impressive and he has been weakened since then. As darren says elsewhere we need to remember that the rape trial was a side show.
