For the benefit of any readers who don’t regularly check out military news sites – it looks like the US is planning a big offensive in Iraq. The word is they’re going to retake Fallujah, and hopefully kill Zarqawi while they’re at it. I’m going to stick my neck out here, and guess that it’s going to happen before the US elections. Oh well, we’ll see soon enough whether I’m right.
It was scheduled for after the elections – apparently at Allawi’s request to extend diplomatic efforts for longer but there was a bit of a flare-up and accusations that the US administration was purposefully waiting until after elections in case things got bloody… and giving the insurgents a better chance to regroup in the meantime.

Commentary.co.za is a fantastically well-written site with an indepth insight into South African politics. If you want the lowdown on what's happening in the corridors of power, this is the place to read it. These guys know their stuff.
