Yet the article goes on to say that only 1/3 of South Africans believe Zuma is innocent, while 1/5 believe he is guilty. The majority don’t support Zuma – they simply haven’t made up their minds yet. A more accurate headline would have been “South Africans still undecided on Zuma”.
Or perhaps, “Most South Africans have gotten so bored of the Zuma case that they’re judging him on his ties”? Jokes aside. It’s a relatively well-documented fact that politicians don’t have to be right for people to like them. Just look at Winnie Madikizela Mandela.
Yup, don’t underestimate the appeal of a struggle hero. There’s even a fuss that too few freedom fighters made the SA 100 list…
Etv also held a quick poll last night, but htere 75% of voters didn’t want him to be the next president. My thoughts: maybe it’s a good thing. Neither Mandela nor Mbeki were bad leaders. Zuma, on the other hand, could mess things up a bit for the ANC, swaying the vote a bit. It could also stem white voter apathy.

Commentary.co.za is a fantastically well-written site with an indepth insight into South African politics. If you want the lowdown on what's happening in the corridors of power, this is the place to read it. These guys know their stuff.
