Indicators of Intelligent Management
It’s a mantra of many share analysts – watch how the directors of each company are treating their shareholdings in the company’s they manage. It’s not entirely foolproof though as unsavy directors for one can sometimes rather send a signal of their financial idiocracy when choosing to hold shares when they should have sold. Still, when it comes to more sophsticated directors their decisions can be a useful signal. In Ingrid Davis of Netcare’s case, her exceptionally clever use of a financial instrument to finance 1 million Netcare share options that fell due to her is perhaps a double indicator. But that’s ignoring the threat the South African Health Ministry implicitly laid down to the private medical sector recently.
